NORTHERN SHAOLIN

LONG RANGE FIGHTING STYLE

The Northern style originated approximately 1000 years ago in the Northern Shaolin Temple of Honan province. It is a challenging style initially employed by the religious order to discipline erring monks. Powerful long-range hand strikes and leaping kicks were developed to take advantage of the complex open terrain and the relatively large stature of the Northern Chinese natives. The modern forms, accompanied by characteristic vocalizations, are elegant, complicated, and most impressive.
